Summary

Magistrate Dismisses Case

An Andheri magistrate dismissed the case in March 2025 because the 2008 incident exceeded the limitation period.
Mumbai Police filed a B-summary closure report in June 2019, citing insufficient evidence from 13 witnesses.
A 2018 FIR at Oshiwara police station named Patekar, choreographer Ganesh Acharya, director Rakesh Sarang and producer Samee Siddiqui.
The complaint invoked IPC Sections 354 and 509 for sexual harassment.

History

Historical Context

The December 2012 Delhi gang-rape of Jyoti Singh (Nirbhaya) sparked protests and a Justice J.S. Verma committee that received over 80,000 suggestions. Its recommendations produced the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act 2013, establishing six fast-track courts and a mandatory 20-year minimum for gang-rape. Those reforms now guide Mumbai magistrates handling the 2008 sexual-assault allegation against actor Nana Patekar.
