History

Historical Context

Chelsea’s 2005 Premier League win was shadowed by a £300,000 fine after an illegal approach to Arsenal defender Ashley Cole, illustrating how breaches of transfer rules attract severe penalties. That episode of regulatory enforcement provides the backdrop for Manchester United’s current dilemma over 16-year-old JJ Gabriel and potential cross-border offers in the European market.
