History

Historical Context

The NFL’s hard salary cap arrived in 1994 with a $34.6 million limit after a lucrative TV deal, establishing a firm ceiling on payrolls. Subsequent CBAs raised the cap to $120 million by 2011, forcing teams to weigh large contracts against draft assets. That legacy guides the Ravens’ recent four-year deal for center Cam Jurgens.
