History

Historical Context

Eric Dickerson’s 2,105 rushing yards in 1984 set the NFL single-season record, establishing a benchmark for running-back value. Decades later the Kansas City Chiefs followed that model, allocating $43 million to rookie Kenneth Walker III in 2024, showing the league’s continued willingness to invest heavily in the ground game. The pattern links Dickerson’s record-breaking season to today’s roster budgeting.
