History

Historical Context

The April 20, 1999 Columbine High School massacre—where seniors Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 13 students and a teacher—became the deadliest school shooting under the 1998 Federal Assault Weapons Ban and spurred nationwide security upgrades and gun-control debates. Over 70 copycat incidents were recorded by June 2025, a legacy echoed in Baltimore’s September 25, 2026 youth-football shooting.
