History

Historical Context

In 1977 the Yankees, under owner George Steinbrenner, captured their first World Series since 1962 by beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 4–2, with Reggie Jackson’s three-home-run Game 6 earning the “Mr. October” nickname. That dramatic clash sparked a lasting pattern of intense fan scrutiny of star players, a dynamic echoed today as Rays fans celebrate while Yankees stars like Aaron Judge face jeers in the ALDS.
