History

Historical Context

Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption activism, portrayed in the 2016 Indian film ‘Anna’, established a template where Indian authorities pre-emptively restrict metro services during large protests. The current Jantar Mantar demonstration follows that precedent, prompting officials to close numerous Metro gates and deploy thousands of officers to manage crowd movement throughout the city.
