Uttar Pradesh’s cabinet approved a proposal to rename the Noida International Airport in Jewar as Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar. The renaming follows the airport’s inauguration earlier this year.

Airport Background

The airport is a greenfield aviation project located in Jewar, Gautam Buddha Nagar district, intended to serve as a secondary commercial hub for the National Capital Region alongside Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. It was developed through a public-private partnership between Yamuna International Airport Private Limited—a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG—and the Uttar Pradesh state authorities, blending Swiss operational engineering with Indian architectural influences. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the facility on March 28. The first commercial flight, an IndiGo service from Lucknow, landed on June 15. The airport features a single runway equipped with Instrument Landing System (ILS) at both ends, allowing approaches from either direction depending on wind conditions.
