History

Historical Context

In the November 8, 1994 midterms, Newt Gingrich’s Republican Party captured the House with a net gain of 54 seats—the first GOP majority since 1952—by running the Contract with America in safe, deep-red districts. Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign mirrors that tactic, concentrating resources on similarly entrenched Republican districts to preserve House dominance.
