Israeli Authorities Indict Three Men Over Stolen IDF MATADOR Missile

By Drooid · · How we work

Core Event: Indictment and Initial Arrests

The Haifa District State Attorney’s Office filed an indictment on Friday against three men who filmed themselves holding a stolen IDF MATADOR shoulder-fired missile. Two of the suspects, residents of Shfaram aged 22 and 24, were arrested on September 5 during a coordinated operation by the Northern District police, the IDF’s anti-terrorist unit and officers of the military’s Northern Command. A third suspect, also 22, was later identified as a Palestinian resident of the West Bank who had entered Israel illegally and was subsequently arrested. Police described the theft of the MATADOR missile as a “highly unusual case.”

Parallel West Bank Weapons Raid

In a related targeted raid, Israeli police and Border Police arrested four Palestinian residents of the West Bank on suspicion of possessing illegal weapons. The operation took place in the village of Jaba, near Nablus, where authorities recovered ten M16 ammunition magazines and hundreds of additional rounds inside the suspects’ home. A fifth suspect, a Nablus resident in his 40s, was detained in a separate village after officers observed a bag being thrown from a window; the bag contained a pistol, magazines, ammunition, a face mask and other combat equipment.

Law-Enforcement Context and Seizure Data

The Israel Police and Border Police have reported confiscating over 700 deadly weapons in 2026 as part of an ongoing campaign against arms smuggling and violent crime. The MATADOR missile theft is noted as an outlier within this broader seizure effort.

Official Statements & Legal Process

Authorities have emphasized that the investigation remains active and that the indictment reflects a commitment to prosecuting illegal possession of military-grade weaponry. Following a court hearing, the detention of the fourth West Bank suspect was extended until October 26, as scheduled by the court.

Upcoming Judicial Review

The extended detention date signals that further judicial scrutiny of the West Bank suspects is forthcoming, while the indictment against the three individuals involved in the missile theft will proceed through the Israeli legal system.
