History

Historical Context

In 2014, the NBA inked a $2.5 billion media-rights agreement with ESPN and Turner Broadcasting, dramatically expanding televised and digital coverage. The deal granted ESPN 90 regular-season games, Turner 40, and introduced league-wide streaming platforms that reached over 30 million households. Today, the Wizards’ preseason clash at Madison Square Garden streams on DAZN, echoing the league’s earlier push for broader digital access. This lineage shows how streaming contracts now shape roster decisions, injury reporting, and fan engagement across franchises like the Knicks and Wizards.
