History

Historical Context

On April 20 1999, seniors Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 13 students and a teacher at Columbine High School, prompting nationwide security upgrades and the IARD response tactic. The attack inspired more than 70 copycat incidents, a pattern cited after the October 2024 school shootings in Ostroleka and Leszczydól-Nowiny. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk responded by ordering daily police patrols at 50,000 schools to deter further imitation.
