History

Historical Context

On April 20 1999, seniors Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 13 students and a teacher at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, firing 188 rounds before committing suicide. The massacre sparked debates, rapid-deployment police tactics, zero-tolerance school policies, and, by June 2025, inspired more than 70 copycat attacks known as the “Columbine effect.” Today’s Erie, Pennsylvania shooting echoes that pattern, reviving calls for stricter gun-control measures.
