History

Historical Context

In 1998 the NHL granted Nashville an $80 million expansion franchise, launching the Predators with an expansion draft and early selections such as David Legwand. The club has habitually exchanged draft assets for defensive depth, a pattern that persisted in 2024 when GM Chris MacFarland acquired defenseman Jayden Struble from the Montreal Canadiens for a 2027 second-round pick.
