History

Historical Context

After a decade of losing seasons, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded for Jon Gruden in 2002, surrendering two first-round picks, two second-round picks and $8 million to Oakland. Gruden revamped the offense and, backed by the defense built under Tony Dungy, led the team to a 12–4 record and a Super Bowl XXXVII victory, illustrating how a high-cost coaching hire can instantly reshape a franchise.
