History

Historical Context

After a Los Angeles jury acquitted the four LAPD officers who beat Rodney King in 1992, the city erupted from April 29 to May 3, killing 55 people, injuring over 2,300 and causing more than $1 billion in damage before the California National Guard intervened. That unrest prompted police-tactic reforms, yet the recent Philadelphia shooting—met with SWAT units and a lockdown—shows similar tensions persist.
