Volkswagen Unveils ID. Tiguan, the Electric SUV Set to Replace the ID. 4

By Drooid · · How we work

New Model Overview

Volkswagen introduced the ID. Tiguan as the successor to the ID. 4 and the Europe-only ID. 5. The vehicle adopts a more upright, muscular SUV silhouette with classic pull-type door handles. Inside, the cabin features a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15-inch central infotainment screen, and an optional 12-inch passenger-only display. Physical climate controls, steering-wheel buttons and a dedicated volume knob replace the touch-capacitive interfaces that drew criticism on earlier ID models. A “Retro” mode can recreate the blue-and-red gauges of the Golf IV, and the central screen can show a virtual garage of six historic Volkswagen models.

Technical Specs & Performance

Volkswagen says the ID. Tiguan will be offered with three powertrain options in Europe:

  • 58 kWh battery, rear-wheel drive, 188 hp; towing capacity 1,800 kg (3,968 lb).
  • 77 kWh battery, rear-wheel drive, 281 hp; towing capacity 2,000 kg (4,409 lb).
  • 77 kWh battery, all-wheel drive, 295 hp; same 2,000 kg towing rating.

The company claims a maximum WLTP range of up to 373 miles (600 km), which Volkswagen estimates translates to roughly 316 miles under EPA testing. Cargo capacity includes a 1.1-cubic-foot (32-liter) front trunk and up to 18.9 cubic feet (534 liters) behind the rear seats. One-pedal driving is standard, and an optional Connected Travel Assist system can perform assisted lane changes and bring the vehicle to a stop at red lights. Additional options include massaging, ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a 480-watt Harman Kardon sound system.

Market Position & Pricing

Volkswagen lists the ID. Tiguan in four European trim levels—Trend, Life, Style and R-Line—with a starting price of €42,695, roughly $48,000 at current exchange rates. Pre-orders in Germany and several other European countries are scheduled to begin on October 13. The model is slated to launch in Europe in early 2027. Volkswagen’s U.S. division confirmed that the ID. Tiguan will eventually arrive in the United States, but has not disclosed a launch date or which powertrains will be offered there.

Official Statements & Responses

Volkswagen states that the ID. The automaker also highlights a vehicle-to-load function that lets the battery power external devices such as an electric grill or e-bike via a PowerSocket adapter. Volkswagen emphasizes that the new model combines traditional SUV styling with a fully electric drivetrain, positioning it as a core element of the brand’s electrification strategy.

What’s Next

Pre-orders start on October 13, and the ID. Tiguan will enter European showrooms in early 2027. U.S. availability is expected later, pending final decisions on powertrain configurations and pricing for the American market.
