History

Historical Context

After Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast in August 2005—causing $125 billion in damage, displacing over one million people, and forcing the New Orleans Saints to play four home games at LSU’s Tiger Stadium—the SEC moved its Louisiana-Arkansas football game to that same venue. The 2005 relocation created a precedent for shifting SEC contests when tropical storms endanger stadiums and broadcast contracts.
