History

Historical Context

The 1994 MLB strike began on August 12, 1994; after 34 days acting commissioner Bud Selig cancelled the postseason, ending the World Series for the first time since 1904 and costing owners about $580 million. The payroll-gap dispute that sparked the walk-out still echoes today as the NLCS pits high-payroll Los Angeles Dodgers against low-budget Milwaukee Brewers, reminding owners of the strike’s schedule-risk lesson.
