History

Historical Context

In 2007 the NFL fined the New England Patriots $250,000 and coach Bill Belichick $500,000 for the Spygate videotaping breach, the league’s largest penalty at the time. Subsequent sanctions such as the 2010 Broncos $50,000 video-taping fine showed a pattern of monetary discipline shaping contract and draft strategies, a dynamic now echoed in Cleveland’s handling of Deshaun Watson’s $14,926 fine and future draft considerations.
