History

Historical Context

On April 20 1999, seniors Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 13 students and a teacher at Columbine High School, launching the “Columbine effect” that linked school-shooting tactics, security policies, and copycat attacks. The massacre prompted immediate-action police tactics, zero-tolerance rules, and national gun-control debate, influencing later incidents such as the recent Douglas murders and Dooly County curfew imposed by Mayor Eddie Daniels.
