History

Historical Context

During the 2006 Lebanon War, a February 12 Israeli armored convoy struck a Hezbollah-placed IED near Marjayoun, killing three soldiers. The Israel Defense Forces, operating alongside the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), reported 121 Israeli fatalities and 1,200 wounded that conflict. Similarly, the recent Humvee rollover near the Litani River claimed Captain Eliav Haim Tzapalamus, echoing past vehicle-related losses that have plagued IDF operations in southern Lebanon. These recurring incidents pressure the Israeli Ministry of Defense to overhaul convoy safety protocols and intensify coordination with UNIFIL to prevent further casualties.
