History

Historical Context

In January 2013 the FAA issued an emergency airworthiness directive that grounded all 50 Boeing 787 Dreamliners after lithium-ion battery fires on ANA and Japan Airlines, the first worldwide grounding of an aircraft type since 1979. The incident spurred regulators worldwide, including India’s DGCA, to tighten lithium-battery carriage rules, prompting airlines such as IndiGo to adopt stricter monitoring after a power-bank fire on flight 6E 6115.
