HomeView Announcement Details
Apple is slated to announce its new smart-home hub, named HomeView, at the “Welcome home” event scheduled for October 13. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman says the device will be introduced in two configurations: a countertop model with a metal speaker base and a wall-mounted version with a flat, square base. The countertop model will be offered in four colors—space gray, silver, starlight and pink—while the wall-mounted version will be limited to monochrome silver or space gray. Gurman notes that Apple plans to ship HomeView to consumers in mid-November.
Design and Technical Specs
The HomeView’s design echoes the iMac G4, featuring a floating display perched atop a speaker base. It will be powered by Apple’s A18 chip and rely primarily on voice input, with Siri as the central user interface. The hub will run native Apple apps but will not host an App Store; however, users may be able to project third-party app widgets from a nearby iPhone.
Companion Hardware Refreshes
Alongside HomeView, Apple is expected to unveil a refreshed Apple TV set-top box equipped with an A19 chip, and an updated HomePod mini that incorporates an S10 chip to extend voice control and audio playback throughout the home. Apple has also announced partnerships with appliance makers such as LG to launch a suite of smart-home accessories—including thermostats, door locks and doorbells—designed to integrate with the new hub.
Official Response
Apple did not provide comment when contacted for comment about the HomeView announcement and related hardware updates.
Market Position and Anticipated Impact
The HomeView is positioned as a Siri-focused command center for Apple-powered smart homes, directly competing with Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub lines. By serving as a HomeKit hub, the device aims to consolidate control of compatible accessories under a single Apple-managed interface, potentially strengthening Apple’s foothold in the smart-home market.
