Summary

Jaguars Return Nullified

Jaguars rookie Josh Cameron returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a would-be touchdown before it was called back.
The return was nullified because of offsetting penalties, including a hold by Jaguars' Branson Combs.
A midfield scrum caused the ejection of Jaguars' Bryan Thomas Jr.
The same scrum also led to the ejection of Eagles' Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
After the ejections, the teams performed another kickoff to restart play.

Summary

Trotter Jr. Ejected

Jaguars entered the game with a 3-1 record after wins over the Bengals and Patriots.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.’s ejection was the first in a London NFL game since Kyle Hamilton in 2023.
Week 4 saw 271 penalties, the second-most in a week since 1950, with 963 total in the first four weeks.
NFL referees Jeff Seeman and Adrian Hill were suspended after the controversial Week 4 officiating.

History

Historical Context

During the 2007 season the NFL uncovered the Patriots’ illegal sideline videotaping of the Jets, prompting Commissioner Roger Goodell to fine head coach Bill Belichick $500,000, fine the team $250,000 and strip its 2008 first-round draft pick. That decisive sanction established a precedent for swift discipline, shaping the league’s readiness to punish on-field misconduct in later games.
