History

Historical Context

The 1995 suicide bombing that killed Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, attributed to Khalistani groups, marked a resurgence of militant attacks after the 1990 wave in which Khalistani outfits assassinated several police officers, including Inspector Harcharan Singh Soori. The recent killing of Assistant Sub-Inspector Iqbal Singh mirrors that pattern, prompting renewed coordination between Punjab Police and national intelligence agencies.
