Summary

Ossoff Charges Collins

Sen. Jon Ossoff charged Sen. Mike Collins of employing staff with white-nationalist online histories.
Collins said her son-in-law’s white-nationalist posts were a family matter, not a campaign issue.
Collins noted she voted against U.S. President Donald Trump 137 times during the fiscal year.
Collins is one of only two Republican senators supporting abortion rights despite confirming Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

History

Historical Context

The disputed 2000 Florida recount, decided by the Supreme Court on Dec 12 2000, exposed punch-card flaws and spurred the Help America Vote Act of 2002, which funded $3.5 billion for new voting machines. That reform led state boards such as Georgia’s Election Board to seek assistance from the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, shaping today’s Oct 13 2025 early-voting rollout and the ethics scrutiny of Sen. Jon Ossoff.
