History

Historical Context

In 1979-80 the New York Islanders fell to 91 points and missed the playoffs, prompting GM Bill Torrey to acquire Butch Goring and begin a turnaround that sparked a dynasty. The 2024 Philadelphia Flyers, now 0-5-2 and hampered by injuries, echo that pattern of roster attrition forcing contract reassessments such as Zegras’s extension.
