History

Historical Context

Rockstar Games’ 2013 launch of Grand Theft Auto V, which sold over 230 million copies and became the fastest-selling entertainment product, set a benchmark for blockbuster releases. The series’ next installment, GTA VI, is slated for November 2026. Anticipating that competition, Cloud Imperium Games pushed Squadron 42’s Steam launch to Q2 2027, echoing the industry’s long-standing practice of timing releases to avoid market crowding.
