History

Historical Context

The Americans with Disabilities Act, signed by President George H.W. Bush on July 26 1990, extended civil-rights protections to millions of disabled Americans. The 2008 ADA Amendments Act broadened the definition, and the law requires public carriers such as Delta to provide reasonable accommodations. Selma Blair’s 2026 in-flight dispute reflects ongoing enforcement of those obligations.
