Fedorov Deploys Interceptor

Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced that a new Ukrainian interceptor drone shot down two Russian Geran-5 drones.
The interceptor was designed and test-flown within one month, according to Fedorov’s social-media post.
Lasar’s Group, a special-forces unit of the 27th Separate Brigade, deployed the system in combat.
Fabian Hoffmann warned the drones blur lines between drones and missiles, complicating Kyiv’s air defence.

History

Historical Context

Russia’s seizure of Crimea began on 27 February 2014 when unmarked troops occupied key sites and 13 Il-76 transports arrived, prompting Ukraine to reconstitute its National Guard on 12 March 2014 and prioritize indigenous air-defence. The same urgency drives today’s Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko and Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov to field locally built interceptors against Geran drones.
