History

Historical Context

When the NFL instituted its 1995 salary-cap of $40.3 million per team, the New York Jets turned to inexpensive rookie pass rushers to bolster defense. The cap limited team payrolls by roughly 12 % compared with 1994’s $34.6 million, prompting franchises to develop low-cost talent. David Bailey’s three-sack rookie debut, Aaron Glenn’s defensive praise, and Braelon Allen’s 116-yard rushing echo the Jets’ 1995 strategy of maximizing rookie impact to reverse losing streaks. The pattern suggests that cost-effective rookie production remains a viable path for the Jets to improve defensive rankings and break future winless runs.
