History

Historical Context

In March 1999, the Knicks brought back veteran center Patrick Ewing after a torn Achilles, sparking a 12-5 run that echoed his earlier role in the franchise’s rise from the 1985 draft to the 1994 Finals and the 1999 run as the first eighth-seed to reach the NBA Finals. Simultaneously, the Warriors’ October 21 evaluation of Kristaps Porzingis reflects the league’s growing reliance on mid-season medical checks.
