History

Historical Context

When Donald Trump named Sean Spicer press secretary on Dec 22 2016, Spicer’s false inauguration-crowd claim on Jan 21 2017 and an April 2017 poll showing 60% national name recognition fueled a hostile media stance that ended with his July 21 2017 resignation. The 2026 appointment of Katie Zacharia continues that pattern, showing the administration’s long-standing tolerance for confrontational rhetoric.
