Opening of the Exhibition

On October 13, the CEATEC international exhibition launched at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Mihama Ward, Chiba City. The four-day event, organized by the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA), runs through October 16 and is expected to draw more than 110,000 visitors.

Scale and Participation

A total of 821 companies and organizations are taking part, including a record 246 startups and universities, as well as 194 overseas firms from 31 countries and regions. The concurrent Japan Mobility Show bizweek 2026, hosted by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, features over 200 participants from the automotive sector, creating extensive opportunities for business dialogue.

Highlighted Technologies

Exhibitors emphasized “physical AI,” where artificial intelligence autonomously controls robots. Mitsubishi Electric displayed AI capable of detecting abnormal sounds and human voices amid noisy manufacturing settings. Hitachi presented AI applications aimed at improving the efficiency of social-infrastructure operations such as railways and power systems. NEC introduced a service designed to protect organizations from cyber-attacks.

Official Emphasis on Societal Impact

Takashi Niino, chair of JEITA and chairman of NEC, stressed that as social challenges become increasingly complex, it is insufficient to merely create new technologies. He argued that the goal must be to transform industry, society, and daily life toward a better future through the practical implementation of AI and robotics.

Why the Event Matters

CEATEC 2026 serves as a platform for Japanese and international firms to demonstrate how AI and robotics can address pressing issues like labor shortages and disaster prevention. By gathering a broad spectrum of innovators and attracting a large public audience, the exhibition aims to accelerate the adoption of digital technologies across manufacturing, infrastructure, and security sectors.
