History

Historical Context

On 26 November 2008, ten Lashkar-e-Taiba gunmen launched coordinated attacks across Mumbai, killing 175 people. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh responded by strengthening anti-terror laws, creating the National Investigation Agency and authorising the Maharashtra Police and National Security Guard to neutralize the attackers. That response has become a reference point for later Indian police operations targeting illegal venues.
