History

Historical Context

Bayern Munich’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United in the 26 May 1999 Champions League final – a match remembered for United’s injury-time goals and Bayern’s defeat despite three European Cup titles – underscored the need for greater squad depth. That lesson influences Bayern’s squad management as they face Viking FK in the upcoming 2026 European competition.
