Summary

SpaceX Sparks Sunrise Glow

SpaceX’s Falcon 9 launch created a “space jellyfish” glow over Central Florida at sunrise.
New Jersey residents saw the glow about 15 minutes after liftoff.
Meteorologist Jeff Edmondson said the rocket’s northeast trajectory along the Atlantic coast enhanced East-Coast visibility.
SpaceX will stream a live webcast on X about 20 minutes before liftoff.
A backup launch is set for Oct 14 at 6:08 a.m. if the primary flight is scrubbed.

History

Historical Context

NASA’s 2008 Commercial Resupply Services contract awarded SpaceX $1.6 billion for twelve Dragon cargo flights, leading to the first operational mission, CRS-1, on 8 October 2012. That flight proved a private spacecraft could reliably service the ISS. Building on that success, the recent CRS-35 launch again used a Falcon 9 from Cape Canaveral, delivering over 2,860 kg of supplies.
