Core Appointment
On October 13, 2026, the Delhi Capitals announced that former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh will serve as the franchise’s assistant and batting coach for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season. The appointment marks Singh’s first formal coaching role in his career and reunites him with the franchise he represented in 2015.
Background & Context
Yuvraj Singh, a 44-year-old two-time World Cup winner, was a key figure in India’s triumphs at the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. Over a 17-year international career he played 304 ODIs, 40 Tests and 58 T20Is. In the IPL he appeared in 132 matches, scoring 2,750 runs and taking 36 wickets.
In 2015 the then-Delhi Daredevils secured his services for a record INR16 crore, the highest IPL purchase at that time, and he featured in all 14 matches that season. Since retiring in 2019, Singh has mentored emerging Indian talents such as Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Prabhsimran Singh and others, but has not held an official coaching position until now.
