Historical Context

After the Election Commission of India digitised rolls in 1992, covering about 400 million citizens, it has repeatedly revised the lists through intensive and special intensive revisions, most recently the 2025-26 SIR upheld by the Supreme Court. In Punjab’s 2024 update, Chief Electoral Officer Navjot Singh Sidhu added 7.97 lakh voters and deleted 9.44 lakh outdated entries, continuing the drive for accurate, inclusive rolls.
