History

Historical Context

After the 2000 Florida recount—where a 537-vote margin out of 5.96 million triggered the Supreme Court’s Bush v. Gore decision on Dec 12, 2000—Congress passed the Help America Vote Act in 2002 to modernize voting equipment. That reform legacy underlies today’s 2026 Georgia early-voting rollout, contested by Governor Brian Kemp, the DOJ, DHS and former President Donald Trump.
