History

Historical Context

In 2007 the NFL fined the New England Patriots $500,000 and stripped a 2008 first-round pick for Spygate. The league escalated its crackdown in 2009 when the New Orleans Saints’ bounty program triggered a $500,000 fine, pick losses and suspensions of Sean Payton and GM Mickey Loomis. The policy persists, evident in the 2024 two-game suspension of Bills safety Alaric Jackson for punching Bradley Chubb.
