History

Historical Context

The 1993 Oslo I Accord, followed by Oslo II in 1995, recognized the PLO and established the Palestinian Authority while promising phased Israeli withdrawal. Settlement expansion nevertheless continued, with the settler population climbing from roughly 115,700 in 1993 to 203,000 by 2000. Today’s reports of settler abductions of farmers reflect the same pattern of violence that has persisted since Oslo.
