History

Historical Context

The 2007 Estonian DDoS wave, where Russian-linked hackers flooded ministries and the state bank with over 1,000 requests per second, forced NATO to adopt a formal cyber-defence policy. In 2024 Ukraine’s strikes on Yandex data centers and coordinated Russian propaganda on Wikipedia echo the same tactic of targeting critical online services, reminiscent of the 2006 German Wikipedia Blaster-worm hyperlink attack.
