Summary

Vivek Bhagat Files FIR

ACP Vivek Bhagat filed a complaint that led to an FIR against a journalist and CJP members.
The FIR was lodged on October 13 under the SC/ST Act and BNS sections 221, 356(2), 3(5).
The journalist made casteist remarks about Bhagat’s Megh/Meghwal identity and accused him of sexual assault on October 3.
Bhagat’s promotion to additional DCP was withheld after the allegations, though officials said it pre-dated them.

History

Historical Context

After the 16 December 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape sparked nationwide protests, the Justice J.S. Verma Committee gathered over 80,000 public suggestions and helped drive the 3 February 2013 Criminal Law Amendment Act, expanding fast-track courts and police oversight. That reform framework now underpins scrutiny of Delhi’s ACP Vivek Bhagat, whose AI-fabricated video and caste-harassment complaints have triggered investigations by the Delhi Police and the National Commission for Women.
