History

Historical Context

After the 1995 Indians posted a 100-win, 144-game season but fell 4-2 to the Atlanta Braves in the World Series, the club kept manager Mike Hargrove until a 1999 postseason loss prompted his firing. The pattern repeated when the Houston Astros dismissed Joe Espada after a season that ended with a wild-card sweep, illustrating how playoff disappointment drives leadership changes.
