History

Historical Context

After the FBI opened the Crossfire Hurricane probe on July 31 2016 following George Papadopoulos’s tip, director James Comey publicly confirmed the Russia investigation in July 2016 and testified in 2017 before his May 9 2017 dismissal. Subsequent FBI leaders have used comparable public briefings, illustrating a decade-long pattern; the probe later contained 17 FISA errors.
