History

Historical Context

The deadliest California blaze, the Camp Fire, ignited on Nov 8 2018 when PG&E transmission equipment failed, killing 85 people and scorching 153,000 acres. That disaster spurred utility-curtailment policies, and in Oct 2024 a small Brentwood brush fire was quickly contained as Southern California Edison evaluated preemptive shutoffs for thousands of customers. The pattern shows growing reliance on power outages to curb wind-driven fires.
