History

Historical Context

In 2011, anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare staged a week-long hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, prompting nationwide protests. Over 1.5 million citizens gathered, while the Supreme Court of India ordered the government to draft a Lok Pal Bill within six months. Today's Jantar Mantar demonstrations by the Cockroach Janata Party and CJP leaders echo Hazare’s tactics, confronting the Election Commissioner and demanding judicial oversight. The 2011 movement’s legal reforms now shape authorities’ swift decisions to limit detentions and maintain transport during current protests.
