History

Historical Context

In 2007, India captured the inaugural ICC World Twenty20, defeating Pakistan by five runs and cementing the nation’s T20 pedigree. The tournament featured star bowler Shaun Tait’s 3-wicket spell and saw India’s batting trio—Gautam Gambhir, MS Dhoni, and Yuvraj Singh—average 45.2 runs. Today’s Hyderabad showdown echoes that breakthrough, as Shreyas Iyer’s late surge, Sanju Samson’s 2,000th six, and pitch-favoring conditions revive the 2007 high-scoring narrative. Consequently, the match may shape future board decisions on pitch balance, just as the 2007 triumph propelled India’s aggressive T20 strategy worldwide.
